Richard Cockram – Private 52183

Richard was born in July 1899.

He was living in Strawberry Avenue, Garforth with father Arthur (b 1874 in Garforth), mother (Selina B 1873 in Kippax) and brother Harold B (b 1897)
In 1901 and 1911 his father was listed as a gardener. In 1911 they were living in Church Lane, Garforth. Also living there was youngest son Clarence b, 1905 in Garforth.
Richard enlisted in 6th Reserve Battalion H Brigade in Pontefract on 25th May 1918 at the at the of 18 years and 9 months. His occupation at the time was a miner and he was living in Strawberry Avenue.
He was killed on 4th November 1918 at the age of 19 whilst serving in France and Flanders with 9th Battalion Duke Wellington’s West Riding Regiment – just six months after he enlisted and only seven days before Armistice Day. At this time his parents were living at 1 Moorland View Garforth.
His final resting place is unknown but he is Commemorated on Panel in
