He was the eldest son of John Henry and Mary Elizabeth Bedell.
Ernest served with the 5th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment.
He died on 18th December 1915 aged 26 – probably in the first Phosgene Gas Attack at Wieltje east of Ypres in Belgium.
